Stefano Named to Key Senate Committees

Senator Pat Stefano (R-32) has been appointed Vice Chair of the Senate Community, Economic and Recreational Development Committee and will serve on four other key committees for the 2015-2016 Legislative Session.

Stefano was appointed to the committees by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati (R-25).

Stefano, who served as Vice President of the Fayette Chamber of Commerce and Board Member of the Fay-Penn Economic Development board, said he is pleased to serve as vice chair of a committee that will focus its efforts on job creation and economic development.

“As a small-business owner, I am looking forward to using my real-world experience to develop policy and legislation to help bring new opportunities to communities throughout Pennsylvania and encourage companies to stay and grow here,” Stefano said.  “Additionally, this committee has oversight over the gaming industry, which is important since we have a casino in my senatorial district.”

Stefano will also serve on the Transportation, Rules and Executive Nominations, State Government and Game and Fisheries committees.

“A good transportation system is critical to health and safety and to economic development,” Stefano said.  “Locally, my priority will be completing Route 219 and the Mon-Fayette Expressway – two key corridors in this area.”

As a member of the Senate Rules and Executive Nominations Committee, Stefano will play a key role in both the legislative and executive nomination process. In addition to considering Senate bills returning on concurrence from the House of Representatives, this committee is charged with consideration of Governor Wolf’s executive nominations.

Stefano said he will use his membership on the Game and Fisheries Committee to promote the rich hunting tradition of his district as well as projects that will encourage recreation, including the Somerset Lake Dam remediation.

A strong supporter of government reforms, he will advocate for legislation in the State Government Committee to eliminate per diems and other perks.
