State Grant Will Support Low-Income Communities in Monessen

HARRISBURG – A grant from the state Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) will help support the City of Monessen’s efforts to improve housing options and infrastructure for low-income residents, according to state Senator Pat Stefano (R-32).

The $274,500 grant was awarded as part of the Community Development Block Grant Program, which is administered by DCED. The program funds projects such as housing rehabilitation, pubic services, community facilities, infrastructure improvement, development and planning in low- and moderate-income areas.

“Improving access to affordable housing and expanding job opportunities are two sure-fire ways to boost the quality of living in our communities,” Stefano said. “Each community has its own unique set of housing and employment challenges, and I am thankful that this grant will give Monessen the flexibility to support the needs of low-income individuals and families locally.”
