This week, the governor signed my legislation, which would adjust an outdated requirement for a qualified mechanic to perform an oil change every 100 hours on all diesel-powered equipment used by mining companies, into law.

Act 9, formerly Senate Bill 115, amends Pennsylvaniaโ€™s Bituminous Coal Mine Safety Act to more appropriately reflect the needs of today's equipment, as opposed to equipment from decades ago. The former requirement was a wasteful practice, and Iโ€™m hopeful this change will lead to more efficient processes for mine operators.
