Local Airports Receive State Grants

Three airports in the 32nd Senatorial District were awarded significant state grants today (December 6) to support major capital improvement projects, according to state Senator Pat Stefano.

Joseph A. Hardy/Connellsville Airport in Fayette County was awarded $75,000 to rehabilitate and replace components of the airport’s weather reporting system.

Somerset County Airport was awarded $450,000 to construct a new above-ground fueling facility.

Rostraver Airport in Westmoreland County was awarded $75,000 to acquire equipment to maintain the airfield and $112,500 to improve utility service to airport hangars.

“These airports are key parts of our regional economy and they certainly will take on an even larger role in the future,” said Senator Stefano. “These grants continue the state’s investment in our community. By developing and enhancing our local airports, we give local leaders another great marketing tool to use when competing for new businesses and jobs.”

The airports were among 26 facilities across Pennsylvania sharing $6.2 million in grants during the current round of funding from PENNDOT’s Aviation Development Program and Multimodal fund.
