ADDISON – Sen. Pat Stefano (R-Fayette/Somerset/Westmoreland) and Rep. Matthew Dowling (R-Fayette/Somerset), in coordination with Addison Borough and Joel Landis of the Somerset County Department of Emergency Services, issued the following update regarding the water emergency in Addison Borough, Somerset County.
Addison residents are urged to conserve water as levels in the Addison Area Water Authority’s reservoir continue to deplete. Though leaks in the system were detected this weekend and repairs are ongoing, officials believe there are still more leaks to locate. Assistance with leak detection has been requested from PaWARN.
“Though a located leak was repaired over the weekend a loss of water is still occurring. Crews are out today attempting to identify the additional break. The water that was brought in over the weekend is diminishing and additional tankers will be brought in today and tomorrow to again refill the reservoir,” Landis said.
Today, donated water from the National Pike Water Authority has again been put into the reservoir, in coordination with PaWARN and Dean’s Water Service. The authority continues to work with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) throughout these issues.
PaWARN is a network to support and promote statewide emergency preparedness, disaster response and mutual aid assistance for public and private water and wastewater utilities for natural and human caused events in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Additional bottled water has been donated from the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Division of Western Pennsylvania.
The following information that was previously released remains in effect:
The water authority issued a boil water advisory that will be in place until further notice.
Bottled drinking water continues to be distributed at the Addison Volunteer Fire Department. Portable toilets are also on site.
Water buffalos from Somerset County Department of Emergency Services containing non-potable water are located at the following locations:

Residents are urged to use bottled water for drinking and cooking. The non-potable water available at the buffalos is not of drinking quality but may still be used for many other purposes.
Organizations such as the local Salvation Army and Red Cross are at the ready to assist citizens throughout this issue. Residents seeking out these services are encouraged to call Rep. Dowling’s office at 814-634-4390.
Addison Borough continues to look for donations of pallets of bottled water to be distributed to area residents, as this issue will be ongoing. Any organization wishing to donate should contact Dowling’s office to coordinate.
