Stefano Urges Local Residents to Vote for Ice Garden as National Kraft Hockeyville Contest Comes to End

State Senator Pat Stefano (R-32) is urging area residents cast their votes for the Rostraver Ice Garden in the national Kraft Hockeyville “For the Love of Hockey” contest.

Stefano said voting ends Tuesday, April 25, for the contest, with the winner receiving $150,000 for facility upgrades and the opportunity to host a 2017-18 NHL preseason game.

During remarks on the Senate Floor today WATCH Stefano said he is proud that the Ice Garden has made it into the finals of the contest, thanks to strong local support.   The Ice Garden eliminated the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena in Geneseo New York in the East Semifinal and now faces the Pepsi Ice Center in Bloomington, Illinois. Approximately 1,300 rinks were initially nominated.

“The Ice Garden is a great local facility, which is home to the California University of PA hockey team, the Mon Valley Thunder youth programs and five local high school teams and also provides entertainment for skaters of all levels” Stefano said.  “Winning the contest would make available much needed funding to help the owners undertake improvements that will make the rink even better so it can serve more hockey local hockey enthusiasts.  Time is running out, so I’m asking area residents to go to https://www.krafthockeyville.com/#register and support our local rink.”

Stefano, who has toured the facility and worked to gain support for the facility, said winning the Kraft Hockeyville USA 2017 contest would allow the Ice Garden to make a series of capital improvements and move on from a partial collapse of the roof in 2010.

“The Ice Garden has such a great history in our community – which has a strong hockey tradition, so I’m confident that we can bring this title home,” Stefano said.
