Stefano Announces More Than $2 Million in State Grants for Fayette County Improvement Projects

HARRISBURG — Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) announced today that projects in Fayette County were awarded more than $2 million in state grants from the Statewide Local Share Account (LSA) and Greenways, Trails and Recreation programs.

“I’m proud to see these state investments going towards projects that will make a real difference for communities across Fayette County,” Stefano said. “From improving infrastructure to enhancing emergency services, these grants will help our municipalities better serve residents, advance public safety, support long-term economic growth and enhance overall quality of life across our county. I’m grateful to work alongside our local elected officials to help secure this funding in order to deliver meaningful improvements for the people we serve.”

The following projects were awarded LSA funding:

Brownsville Township received $286,819 to purchase a street sweeper for use in Brownsville Township, Brownsville Borough and West Brownsville Borough.

Bullskin Township received $72,030 to purchase a truck, which will improve the ability for road crews and township personnel to operate.

Bullskin Township Connellsville Township Joint Sewer Authority received $38,616 to rehabilitate eight deteriorating manholes.

Connellsville City received $131,641 to make improvements to municipal IT equipment across three buildings, benefiting the police department, public works department and more.

Connellsville Township received $82,700 to replace a culvert where River Hill Road crosses Laurel Run.

Dunbar Borough Township Sanitary Authority received $71,407 to purchase and install odor control equipment.

Dunbar Township received $150,000 to purchase a wheel loader, allowing crews to efficiently perform maintenance.

Fairchance Georges Joint Municipal Sewage Authority will receive $50,000 to cover professional service costs for Phase II of their GIS sanitary sewer condition assessment and asset inventory project. 

Fayette County Redevelopment Authority on behalf of the Uniontown YMCA will receive $163,530 to cover construction costs for the creation of recreational courts at the Uniontown YMCA.

Franklin Township received $88,618 to purchase a truck equipped with a plow and spreader, providing needed support for township snow removal efforts.

German Township Sewer Authority will receive $85,000 to purchase two specialized mowers to increase sewer maintenance efficiency and $34,944 to purchase a Sewer Jetter with a camera.

North Fayette County Municipal Authority received $45,472 to purchase a tractor with uplifts to maintain grass around water storage tanks and clear rights-of-way for water transmission.

Perry Township, on behalf of the Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department, received $187,513 to construct a building addition to house vehicles and emergency equipment.

Perryopolis Borough received $96,437 to prevent flooding on Lincoln Street, Cemetery Road and Hancock Street by installing new inlets, pipes and more.

Redstone Township Sewer Authority received $55,124 to complete wastewater treatment plant upgrades.

Stewart Township received $100,000 to repave King Road.

Washington Township received $170,000 to purchase a wheel loader to support road repair and emergency response.

Additionally, Luzerne Township was awarded $65,000 from the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program to improve Patsy Hillman Park. While German Township will receive $100,000 to make improvements to the township ballfields, with funds through same program.

The LSA program distributes gaming revenue to economic development projects. The Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program funds projects involving development, rehabilitation and improvements to public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails and river conservation. The grants are funded through the Marcellus Shale Fund, which was created by Act 13 of 2012.

The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development which administers many of Pennsylvania’s economic development and community improvement programs.
