HARRISBURG – Continuing their mission to help Somerset County residents, Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar’s (R-69) and Sen. Pat Stefano’s (R-32) efforts were successful in securing just over $12.58 million in grant and loan funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) to assist with Conemaugh Township Municipal Authority’s water quality project. Out of this allocation, $8.8 million is deemed a grant.
According to Metzgar and Stefano, around 2,200 new meter pits, including meters, will be installed in the Conemaugh Township Municipal Authority’s distribution system. Then, meter pits will be placed on the property line of each customer and connected to the existing service lines.
“Obtaining these dollars for Somerset County reflects the clear vision of putting residents first and ensuring communities have the resources they need to thrive,” said Metzgar. “This is a significant step forward that will benefit families and generations in the present and future.”
“Reliable access to safe, clean water is paramount. I’m proud to see this funding go towards an infrastructure project that will modernize the system and better serve families throughout Conemaugh Township,” Stefano said.
Founded in 1988, PENNVEST provides grants and low-interest loans for design, engineering and construction of publicly and privately owned drinking water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as storm water and wastewater projects.
