HARRISBURG — Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32), and House Minority Leader Rep. Jesse Topper (R-78) announced projects in Bedford County were awarded more than $4 million in Statewide Local Share Account (LSA) funds from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) today.
“I’m proud to work with Rep. Topper to bring more than $4 million in funding to Bedford County projects,” said Stefano. “These investments will make a powerful difference in the daily lives of our neighbors by improving roads, water systems, public safety and essential municipal services. I’m grateful to the local leaders who continue to promote opportunities to improve Bedford County, and I am pleased we could help make these projects a reality.”
The Pennsylvania Gaming Act allocates proceeds from gaming revenue to support projects in the public interest across the commonwealth.
“The projects supported by the funding we are announcing today aim to improve the quality of life for all residents,” Topper said. “This funding will be used for a variety of projects, ranging from new police and public works vehicles to infrastructure enhancements, throughout our communities. I am glad to have worked with Sen. Stefano to bring these grants home to Bedford County.”
The following projects received funding through this program:
- Bedford Borough: $225,000 to design the revitalization of Fort Bedford Park, providing safety, accessibility and functionality improvements.
- Bedford Borough (Bedford Borough Municipal Authority): $155,000 to purchase a backhoe wheel loader for infrastructure maintenance, emergency repairs and public works projects.
- Bedford Township (Bedford County Airport Authority): $384,706 to finish an existing airport office shell with interior walls, lighting, restrooms, HVAC, flooring and utilities.
- Bedford Township (Bedford Township Municipal Authority): $60,000 to purchase a mini excavator for water and sanitary sewer maintenance, repairs and emergency response.
- Cumberland Valley Township (Centerville Area Municipal Authority): $37,210 to upgrade water treatment plant monitoring and equipment to improve treatment performance and regulatory compliance.
- East St. Clair Township: $275,000 to purchase two dump trucks for snow removal, hauling and roadway maintenance.
- Everett Borough: $139,591 to purchase and equip two replacement police vehicles to improve officer readiness and response times.
- Everett Borough (Everett Borough Area Municipal Authority): $322,000 to replace approximately 1,750 feet of aging waterline and associated water services.
- Hopewell Borough: $82,899 to construct a utility salt shed to protect road salt and other materials from weather and environmental contamination.
- Juniata Township: $71,000 to purchase a new truck chassis to replace an aging municipal vehicle used for road maintenance and snow removal.
- Liberty Township: $160,960 to purchase a skid loader, dump truck and trailer for road maintenance, stormwater management and public works operations.
- Londonderry Township: $217,000 to purchase a new skid steer, attachments and trailer for highway, utility and right-of-way maintenance.
- Saxton Borough: $212,822 to replace approximately 650 feet of aging galvanized waterline in order to reduce leaks and improve water service.
- Saxton Borough: $137,668 to purchase and equip two replacement police interceptor vehicles.
- Schellsburg Borough: $107,663 to replace approximately 380 feet of deteriorated storm sewer along Route 30 to address roadway undermining, sinkholes and flooding.
- West Providence Township: $333,000 to purchase a new tandem dump truck with plow and spreaders for maintaining approximately 44 miles of township roads.
- Pleasantville Borough (West St. Clair/Pleasantville Borough Municipal Water Authority): $644,000 to replace outdated water meters and install a remote tower-read system to modernize water system operations.
- Woodbury Township: $500,000 to reconstruct municipal office and garage space and construct a detached salt shed following the loss of the township’s office building.
The CFA is an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and administers the commonwealth’s economic stimulus packages. The Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act of 2004 provides for the distribution of gaming revenue through the CFA.
